He was 78. Michael is survived by his two sons, Alan (Cathy) and Kelly; brother Alex (Rose) of Beausejour; sister Annie Donkin of Gimli; sister-in-law Stephie Stetz of Riverton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Michael was recently (June 2004) widowed from his wife Mary to whom he was married for 54 years. He was also predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Pauline; his brothers, Tony, Norman and Dmytro and sisters, Jean and Anastasia. Michael was born in Ledwyn, MB on May 5, 1926. The family lived and farmed in the area where he met and married Mary (nee Roberecki). Mike and Mary resettled on their own farm in the village of Meadow Lea where they worked hard, raised two sons and enjoyed community life. He loved raising cattle particularly Herefords which he bred exclusively throughout his farming life. He was well known for his hearty laugh and love of entertaining. The door was always open for coffee and a song. Many evenings were spent with friends and singing and yodelling while he played his guitar and harmonica. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Rosewood Lodge for their patience and care throughout Mikes stay. Also to the staff at the Stonewall Hospital for their help and support during this difficult time. Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 at the Meadow Lea Hall at the corner of PTH #227 and 248. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of ones choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
