VERNA C. SPENCE (nee CRAIGIE) Surrounded by her family, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved and cherished mother and grand-mother, Verna Spence, on November 23, 2004 at the age of 75 years. She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughter Colleen Kuzyk (Bob), granddaughter Miaco (Rob), great-grandchildren, Brittney, Branden, Kayla; daughter Jadene Sawatsky (Rich), grand-daughter Mackenzie; sister Margaret Smith; brother Wilfred Craigie; sister-in-law Catherine Lemick; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Maurice Schneider. She was predeceased by husband John; parents, William and Dorothy; sister Mary; nieces, Beverly and Margot; nephews, Marlo, Ferd, Kimberly, Shane and Lorne. Verna was born on June 11, 1929 at Beaconia MB. Mom was very devoted to her family and always looked forward to their visits. She took great pride in her home and her yard. Her interests included cooking, gardening, refinishing old furniture, and a good game of cribbage. Mom lived in Winnipeg for many years where she was employed by Modern Cleaners and worked at the University of Winnipeg for 21 years. Upon her retirement she returned to Beaconia to make her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with a viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the Balsam Bay Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Jack Lezack and the nursing staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital Chemo Department, Dr. Erik Badenhorst at Selkirk Medical Centre, Dr. Kanji and the nursing staff at Stonewall District Hospital, Vera Appleyard, palliative care worker who provided Mom and the family with wonderful support, and her homecare nurses Candace and Allison. The pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Bob Kuzyk and Rich Sawatsky; great-grandson Branden Kuzyk; nephews, Terry Smith, David Craigie, and Billy Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice.
