GUDRUN AMELIA MYKLE A much loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend entered peacefully into rest on Monday, April 11, 2005. Gudrun Mykle was born in the farming community of Bulyea, SK on May 21, 1915, to Rasmus and Ida Nordal, second oldest in a family of five children. She had her early schooling in a one-room school in the area. Her family's activities centred around Noronna, the rural Lutheran church beloved by the Norwegian immigrant community which had founded it five years earlier. After attending high school in Strasbourg, SK, she attended Normal School in Regina, and taught in various one-room schools throughout Saskatchewan during the Depression. She met a handsome young railroad man who came from the same small village in Norway as her parents, and, after years of correspondence and meetings, she married Don Mykle in 1943, before he was sent overseas as a member of the Canadian army. When he returned from the war, he resumed his work for the C.P.R. and Gudrun and Don spent their working years in various towns in Manitoba. Two sons were born to them. In the mid 1950's Gudrun also resumed her teaching career, and continued until Gudrun and Don retired to Brandon in 1970. During their working life together and in retirement, Gudrun and Don enjoyed doing things together, whether it was gardening, church work, trips to Norway, or time with family. Gudrun was a talented pianist blessed with perfect pitch, and shared her talents at churches and community events wherever she lived. Her devotion to her family and her husband was outstanding, and her life of faith and service has been an inspiration to all who knew her. Her last residence was Fairview Home, where, despite encroaching blindness, she devoted her time to much-appreciated musical entertainment for the residents, as well as close attention to her grandchildren's activities. She was predeceased by her son Iver in 1955, her husband, her three brothers, a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Lori; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Chris and Jennifer, all of Brandon; her sister Ruth Currie, and sister-in-law Kay Nordal, numerous nieces and nephews, and several relatives in Norway. Gudrun's life is a sermon of faith, devotion and love, a life which has positively influenced many people over the years. Her memory will be treasured forever. The Funeral Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 114 Ashgrove Blvd. on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Ted Jannuska will officiate. A graveside service will be held at Noronna Lutheran Church, Bulyea, SK at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
