LEO KUC July 16, 1924 - May 8, 2005 Following a long and courageous battle with cancer Leo succumbed to his illness, with his family at his side. Leo was born and raised in Winnipeg. Struggling through the economic depression Leo acquired a job at the CNR. Leo voluntarily enlisted in the Canadian Navy and spent most of the war on a Minesweeper where the crew patrolled the West Coast. Upon return from the war Leo resumed his position at the CNR culminating in him receiving Journeyman status as a Boilermaker. Leo had great drive, ambition and determination resulting in him resigning from the secure CNR position and entering the business world. Leo took on many challenges however his primary business acumen was in the hotel industry. Leo owned and operated hotels in Western Canada including the construction of the Royal Ann Hotel in Kelowna along with his business partners. Leo reluctantly retired and with his wife spent the winters in Arizona and summers at the lake. Leo will be forever missed by his wife of 57 years Frances, daughter Lynnel Gordon (Allan), son Les, and grandchildren, Michael (Diana), Jessica and Christina. The family extends appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Shadd, nurses, Brian Robbins, RSW and other Care Partners at Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care, compassion and patience provided to Leo and family members alike during this difficult and trying period. Cremation has already occurred at the request of Leo. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
