JOHN FERGUSON September 22, 1928 - June 21, 2005 John passed suddenly during heart surgery on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. He leaves behind an extensive family and many friends: his wife Elfrieda; his children, Norm (Lynn), John (Stacey), Loretta (David) Hughes, Cecelia (Larry) Liebrecht, Gordon, and Megan, and their mother Cecelia; his stepchildren, Marlyn (Bob) Cheatley, Herb Bujak, and Leo (Maryann) Bujak; grandchildren, Tricia, Caitlin, David, John, Julia, David, Utah, Tia, Brittany, Lacie, Kadison, Jim, Mike, Miranda, Vincent, Anthony, Adam, Matthew, Tina, Boston , Bobby , Bruce ; and soon to be great-grandchild. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and came to Moosehorn shortly after, where his mom ran the post office, and his father operated the FORD dealership. After attending the United College, McGill University and normal school, John taught in Moosehorn, where his family started with Cecelia, and their three children, Norm, John and Loretta. Teaching was not for him, so off to Edmonton to take engineering. Daughter Cecelia was born, and the family was relocated to Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, a job at Pounder Emulsion was augmented with a teaching job at the University of Manitoba, and the family increased by two with the births of Gordon and Megan. A small cottage at Lake of the Woods brought many fun filled hours of boating and water-skiing. After the end of his marriage to Cecelia, John met Elfrieda and another chapter in his life began. Early retirement loomed, but he kept busy with consulting. He found time to write books on the Ferguson family history. The purchase of a hunting lodge in Libau gave birth to his love of flowers, and gardening. They retired from Libau to Selkirk where he was looking forward to working on his book on flowers. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB with a viewing one half hour prior to, with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. A graveside service will take place at the Grahamdale Cemetery on Saturday, June 25 at 12:30 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Loretta, I was trying to reconnect with you and found that your Dad had passed. I often think of the time we went to your cabin and was on the ice snowmobiling with your dog. And boom, the ice was too thin and we had to leave the snowmobile and get the hec off the lake. If you read this I'd love to hear from you again. Please feel free to email me at pattimondor@shaw.ca. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Patti Mondor () on: Dec 05, 2017
