MOSHE STERN (MARTIN) 1945 - 2005 After a 25 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Moshe passed away peacefully on July 1, 2005 in Montreal. He will be lovingly remembered by Sydell, his wife of 38 years; his son Yitz and wife Sarah; his daughter Mikhal and husband Eli; and grandchildren, Yehuda, Shifra and Yeshaya. Moshe was a professor at the University of Manitoba for 36 years and was active in the MS society. He served his community as a Rabbi, a mentor, a scholar and a teacher. He played a great game of racquetball and football, had a true love of learning, and an unforgettable sense of humour. He was a good friend to many and will be sadly missed. Moshe was meticulous in his observance and interpretation of hallacha, the Jewish law, and skillful in identifying ways of allowing the community to maintain a strong connection to Judaism and Israel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS society or the Ezras Cholim of Montreal (514) 836-HEAL.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • From my very first day at U of M, when I collapsed in his class with a punctured lung and he got me help, I knew I had found my Mentor. After only a month of study, the Rabbi asked me to be his research assistant and, in time his personal assistant at U of M. We very soon became fast friends, with my wife and his wonderful family we had many happy times together. I will never forget his humour, his vast knowledge Torah and Halakha and the guidance he so freely gave to help me be a better man, a better Jew and a better scholar. He was a brilliant man, a wonderful friend and I will miss him always. - Posted by: Robert A Ruork (Student, Personal and Research Assistant and dear friend) on: Jan 06, 2014
