IRENE LILLIAN SMITH (nee CUMMING) We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of our mother on August 1, 2005 at the Victoria Hospital with her family at her side. Born in Portage La Prairie on August 28, 1923, she lived in many places throughout Canada before settling in Winnipeg in 1972. She was a gentle, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was admired and loved by those who knew her as a genuinely kind and nurturing soul who placed others before herself. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Edwin Smith in 1976, brother Stanley Cumming in 1986 and sister Muriel Cushing in 2003. She is survived by her son Gordon of Winnipeg, daughter Maureen and son-in-law Ed of Oakville. Irene will also be remembered by her much-loved granddaughter Sarah of Toronto and grandson Gordon of Vancouver. We would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. A memorial service celebrating Irene's life will be held on Friday, August 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. Flowers are graciously declined.
