Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELDON BARRY FINCH It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear Husband, Dad and Grandpa, Eldon Barry Finch, at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, July 31, 2005. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Mary (nee Bisiuk); daughter Darlene, her husband Les Kazmir and their daughter Shauna; and son Ron, his wife Nancy Thorne-Finch and their sons, Jesse and Michael. Al was born on August 27, 1921 in Carman, MB. As a young boy, he lived and farmed with his huge extended family in Barnsley and Central district near Carman. He loved riding horses and learned early the value of hard work. As a young man, he moved to Transcona, MB in July 1941 and soon secured employment with the Canadian National Railway, where he worked for the next 45 years. In 1942, with the Second World War underway, Al volunteered and served as an electrician with the Canadian Air Force's 426 Bomber Squadron in England. At the end of the war, he returned to work with the CNR in Transcona, soon meeting and happily marrying his wife Mary in August 1947. Together they began a loving 57 year marriage raising their two children, Darlene and Ron. Al was a kind and happy man, who loved his family and worked hard to make our lives special in so many ways. At home, Al loved working in and around the house he designed, built and lovingly maintained over the years. A favorite activity was the annual, memorable and enjoyable summer holiday Finch family road trip, often to BC. In the community, Al pursued his love of sports as one of the key founders and coaches of the Transcona Nationals Football Club in the early 1960's. At the CN, while starting in the lumberyard, he worked his way up through a number of positions and was Supervisor of Purchases and Materials at Symington Yard, CNR Prairie Region, at his August 1986 retirement. In his retirement, Al and Mary enjoyed more than a decade of well-deserved winter holidays in Hawaii and Arizona. In July 2000, they happily moved in to their new condo where he loved making new friends, helped with the yard work and enjoyed feeding the deer. Throughout the years, Al always cherished the many fun activities with friends and family and loved having the kids and three grandchildren over for visits and Sunday suppers. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street with Chaplain Paul Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Forever Loved, Never Forgotten Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
