JEAN MARLYN ANDERSON 1936 - 2005 Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at the age of 69 years, our mother moved on to the next chapter in her book. Our father, Barry, predeceased her in 1998. Mom grew up on Lipton Street, in Winnipeg, with her mother Leona and her two sisters, Audrey and Vivian; her father having passed away when mom was very young. From an early age mom had her eye on the boy across the street and they eventually married in 1956. The two of them raised three spirited children (just ask the neighbours) and they enjoyed many years of fun together. For over 25 years Mom was employed at Winnipeg Supply, in a variety of roles. Essentially, she was a jack of all trades. Her boss, mentor and in her words the closest thing to a father figure she ever had was John Doole, to whom our family is forever grateful. Mom took great pride in her work and it was a source of pleasure for her over the years. She also enjoyed the many friendships she developed while at Winnipeg Supply. Mom had a zest and passion for life that was evident in the many activities she was involved in. For years she was an active member and creative force for the women's Optimist Club of Assiniboia. We all loved her ability to take centre stage and everyone looked forward to the annual Christmas production, because simply put - she was hilarious. Mom was also an avid patron of the Arts in Winnipeg and she was thrilled to take her granddaughter to her first Royal Winnipeg Ballet performance. In the late 1980s Mom developed a very special relationship with Jim Daun. She treasured their time together and she missed him dearly when he passed away in 1994. Jim made our Mom feel special with his obvious affection for her and as grown children we were thankful for his presence in her life. The plethora of activities they enjoyed are too numerous to elaborate on. Throughout Mom's life she had a special bond with her sister Audrey. The two of them alternated leaning on one another with the curves that life threw them. Lots of time was spent confiding in one another, travelling and attending beloved garage sales. We are lucky that angels are alive and well, and living in Winnipeg. As children, we always knew that Mom was our soft place to fall and she was our (and her grandchildren's) biggest fan. Besides being a reliable taxi service for those early morning hockey games/practices, she was also the most wonderful confidant and friend. Her open mindedness, sense of humour, integrity and strength of character were only a few of the traits we admired most about her. Mom - you were a remarkable woman and you will be forever missed by us (Gloria and Bob Christie, Dean and Melinda Anderson and Darlene and John Dojack) and your seven darling grandchildren. And yes - the two dogs too. We were blessed to have you and your spirit lives on in those you've left behind. A private family gathering will be held in our Mom's memory. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. What is dying? A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon, and someone at my side says she is gone . Gone where? Gone from my sight, that's all; she is just as large as when I saw her. The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her, and just at that moment when someone at my side says, she is gone , there are others who are watching her coming and their voices take up a glad shout, There she comes and that is dying.
