LARRY ALEXANDER GIFFIN Born Regina, SK on May 28, 1937. Larry passed away on the Palliative Care Unit, Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, Thursday, September 8, 2005. A resident of Stony Plain, AB for 28 years, Larry leaves to celebrate his life, wife Rae; son Christian (Edit); beloved older sister Darlene Ringer; special niece Jo-Anne Joge Ringer; nephews, Jim Ringer (Patti) and Doug Ringer (Dot); great-niece Stephanie Ringer; great-nephews, Zachary and Benjamin Ringer; father-in-law Mike Nadane (Charlotte); sisters-in-law, Karen Kristjansson (Norm), Adrienne Black and their families. Larry will also be remembered by Karen Giffin, Pamela Nicholas and stepson Richard Gage. Larry attended Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba. Larry's professional career included employment with Algoma Steel Corporation, Toronto Iron Works and prior to retirement in 1992 by both the Manitoba and Alberta provincial governments in executive labour relations positions. Known for his quick mind, dry humour and a veracious love of literature, Larry's life was enhanced by hitchhiking in Europe; special friendships enjoyed during participation on the Toronto Scottish Rugby Team, involvement in the Spruce Grove Gun Club, golfing and working in the pro shop at the Stony Plain Golf course; travel in Montana and Arizona led to his interest in aboriginal history, artifacts and crafts subsequently to an appreciation of southwest art depicting aboriginal life and spirituality. Through attendance of local aboriginal craft shows, Larry also collected the work of gifted Alberta artists. And last but not least, if ever found sitting, reclining or lying, always a cushion for his favoured feline companions. A competitive athlete, Larry's greatest sports achievement might his appointment for life as Commissioner of the Blossom Boys, an informal sports fraternity from the Winnipeg River Heights area whose activities included the highlighted and much publicized New Year's Day Toilet Bowl Game that survived 21 years. Cremation has taken place. At Larry's request, there will be no service. Inurnment in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB. A sincere thanks to his caregivers, most recently on 9Y Palliative Care Unit.
