MARJORIE CELIA FAITH RHODES 1917 - 2005 Peacefully, in her sleep, our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on September 11, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Morgan Rhodes; her parents, Edward and Blanche Gilliat and her brother Cecil Gilliat. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Dianne, grandchildren, Sheryne, Lori, Vincent and Donald, great-grandchildren, Karly Jess, Maddison, and Jordan; son Brett, daughter-in-law Myrna, grandchildren, Jon, Murray, Gary, Krista (Stoll), Joel, and Benjamin, great-grandchildren, Cody and Trista; son David, daughter-in-law Cindy, granddaughter Jillian. Born in Saskatoon on December 17, 1917, she moved to Winnipeg with her parents in the 1930s. There, she met her partner for life, Godfrey Morgan Rhodes and they were married in June of 1942. In her early years, she worked as a secretary at Great West Life and later in the office at Gordon Bell High School. After raising her family she volunteered at the Victoria General Hospital when it first opened and finished her career working on the switchboard at the Misericordia Hospital. Happily, the whole family was able to gather at Breezy Bend Country Club in June of 1992 to celebrate with Mum and Dad the 50th Anniversary of their marriage. Through all the years, her family was always her first priority. As we grew up on Jessie Avenue, Mum would watch over us from the upstairs landing window as we skated and played at the Crescentwood Community Club. Mum would let us know when to come home by turning on the front light. Mum was the glue that held us all together, supporting, nurturing and reprimanding us as the situation merited. She taught us the respect and empathy for others that she displayed every day of her life. The family would like to thank all the staff at West Park Manor for the care and compassion they gave our mother these last few years. A family service will be held September 15 after which she will be interred with her husband at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation at ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
