EDWARD WINIARZ Surrounded by our love, the family sadly announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Edward Winiarz on Monday, September 12, 2005 in Winnipeg at the age of 86. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and best friend of 60 years, Jean; children; Stanis (Maurice), Edward Jr. (Maureen), Christine (David), Terri; grandchildren, Craig (Heidi), Keith (Kerry), Derek, Scott, Shawna (Mike); great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Mark, Kimberley, Seth, Saige and Chloe, all of Winnipeg. Also mourning his loss are his brothers, Elmer (Angela) and Julian. Ed was born on March 8, 1919 in Winnipeg to Katherine and Anthony Winiarz. He attended Holy Ghost School and St. John's High. His first job was in the Department of Finance in Ottawa. To better serve his country, he enlisted in the RCAF and went overseas. As a flight lieutenant, he performed many reconnaissance missions, including a First Light mission on D-Day. After his discharge he married his beautiful Jean on August 18, 1945. He graduated with his CA designation in 1950, and worked for Bridge and Tank Western Limited as Controller until retiring in 1982. Ed and Jean travelled, enjoyed their golf and wonderful times spent at the family cottage at Sandy Hook. It was appropriate that Ed and Jean chose to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this August at Sandy Hook with their family and extended family. He served at St. Anthony's of Padua Church as the parish treasurer for over 30 years, treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 10569, member of the Knights of Columbus for over 45 years, Minister of the Eucharist and reader. During the summer months Ed and Jean were parishioners of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Winnipeg Beach. He was a lifetime member of CPAC and belonged to CPAC and St. John Cantius Seniors. In 1999, Ed was an honoured recipient of the Benemerenti Papal Medal for his countless hours of volunteer service to the community. Ed was kind, loving and caring, a true gentleman. He was our guiding light, our strength, our friend, and our tutor---teaching by example. He lived life with passion and humility, never seeking recognition. He will be forever with us. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 15, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Ave. with Msgr. Michael Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. For those who choose, viewing will be one half hour before Mass. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all his caregivers. If so desired donations may be made in Edward's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or take the time to make a donation of blood. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
