MARY MARGARET TRAVERS (nee ANDERSON) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret Travers after a courageous eight year battle with leukemia. Under the warm and supportive care of the staff at Riverview Health Centre, Mary passed away on September 12, 2005 at the age of 66 years. Mary was born February 28, 1939 in Dublin, Ireland and was educated at the Sisters of Mercy Convent. Mary immigrated to Canada in 1960 and through her active involvement became a well-known and respected member of Winnipeg's Irish community. Left to cherish her memory is her husband and soulmate of 47 years, Joseph Travers; her children, Jacyntha Travers, Dr. Robb Travers, Pat Travers and Karen Bidulka; her grandchildren, Melanie, Alyssa, Andreya and Dylan; as well as her great-grandchildren, Tynan, Benjamin and Kalen. Mary is also survived by other special people in her life including Jim Bidulka, Fe Garcia, Jeff Garcia, Sam Ward, Harold Reyes; and longtime friends, Marg Ackerman and Joy and Terry Graham. In her courageous battle with leukemia, Mary provided us all with an example of how courage, love and selflessness can ease the pain for those left behind. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Donald Houston and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, to the caring and supportive team of Ward 3E, Riverview Health Centre, as well as to Darlene and Marlene of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. In accordance with Mary's wishes, cremation has already taken place and there will be no interment. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., Fr. Sean Cahill officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family expresses a wish to have donations made in memory of Mary Travers to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4 or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
