PETER SEAGRIS We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Peter Seagris on September 6, 2005 in Vernon, BC. During Peter's last moments he was surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born February 10, 1928 at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, ON, formerly Fort William, ON. Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his famous Sunday dinners kept the family glued together. He was a very generous man who always put his family above all else. It gave Peter great pleasure to entertain his friends and he was always willing to help everyone in any way he could. There are not many things one can count on in life, but to Peter's family and friends, he was one of them. He was employed with the C.N.R from 1951 to 1989. Peter hired out first as a fireman and later worked as a locomotive engineer. In 1986, after serving almost 10 years as union local chairman, Peter was elected General Chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers C.N.R. for prairie and mountain region and served in that capacity for three years. He will always be remembered for his humanitarian support of all union members. Peter was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 for 48 years and a member of the Eagles Club in Vernon for the past eight years. Peter had many interests, some of which were his love of gardening, his expertise in the game of pool, his passion for reading history and his knowledge of world politics. Predeceased by his mother and father Eleanor and George; daughter Eleanor; baby son; and three brothers, Edwin, Charles and James. Peter is survived by his loving wife June of 54 years; son Peter; daughters, Deborah (Kevin) of Calgary, AB, Catherine (Ron) of Kelowna, BC and Tammy of Thunder Bay, ON. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Melanie (Jay), Jessica, George, Ryan, Shane and Davin; four great-grandchildren, Shawn, Aaron, Jaysin and Aarika; as well as six brothers; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A celebration of Peter's life will be held in Thunder Bay on Monday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Port Arthur Prosvita. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Peter Seagris. To have, to love and then to part is the greatest sorrow of one's heart. Until we meet again.
