Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS (TOM) PARSONS Thomas "Tom" Parsons of Sprucewoods, Manitoba passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, September 11, 2005. Tom was born at Freshwater, Bell Island, Newfoundland, on September 6, 1927. In 1948, he moved to Toronto and joined the army during the Korean War, for which he took basic training with the Artillery in Petawawa. After Korea, he was posted to Debert, Nova Scotia; Gagetown, New Brunswick; Hemer, West Germany; Winnipeg, Manitoba and Shilo, Manitoba. Tom spent the next six months in Cyprus after which he returned to Shilo where he retired in 1978 after 25 years service. He went to work for Base Transport in 1979 and retired in 1992, which gave him 38 years with the Department of National Defence. Tom is survived by three children, daughter, Debi of Vancouver, BC, son, Tim (Laura Lee) of Brandon and daughter, Liana (Leo) Vivier of Winnipeg; and two grandchildren, Shannon and Nicole. His wife, Shirley, predeceased Tom in 2001 after 47 years of marriage. Tom was a member of the Korean Veterans and the Royal Canadian Legion. A memorial service will be held at St. Barbara's Chapel, Shilo, on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dave Wilson officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at the Sprucewoods Community Hall immediately following the memorial service. Interment will take place in Ontario at a later date.
