MARLENE JOAN WALL (nee MILAN) October 5, 1939 - September 15, 2005 After a lengthy and courageous struggle with cancer, Joan died and is now at peace. She leaves to mourn her husband George, her daughters Lorilee (Michael Woelcke), Barbara (Michael Higgins), Carla (James Peters), her mother Pearl Milan, and seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Natasha, Carter, Grace, Vienna, Katia, and Aiden. Also mourning her death are her brother Robert Milan (Heather), and sisters-in-law Ellie Cmela, Marlene Plett, Angelynne Wall and Iris Wall, and many friends and extended family. Joan was born at St. Boniface Hospital on October 5, 1939. She enjoyed a carefree happy youth in East Kildonan where she was raised and educated. Joan graduated from Miles Macdonell Collegiate and she obtained a Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba. She taught in River East School Division for many years at Neil Campbell, Angus McKay, John Pritchard and Princess Margaret Schools. Through her work as a teacher she had a positive influence on hundreds of students and enjoyed a good working relationship with many colleagues; many of whom became dear and lifelong friends and confidantes. Joan married George Wall in 1961 and together they shared many years of happiness. Joan enjoyed travelling. She and her family saw much of Canada while the children were young and also visited much of Western Europe while George was posted to a school administration position in Germany. Joan loved music and it brought her joy, peace and tranquility throughout her life. As a young girl she sang in school operettas and choirs. She was a member of First Mennonite Church and there she happily participated in the music program and choirs of the church. She also served her church as a Deacon for eight years. Joan received support and love from all of her friends during the difficult months preceding her death. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the members of our church and especially to Rev. Franz Wiebe and Rev. Kathy Koop. Joan will be missed by her family for her friendly disposition, for the wonderful example as a mother that she set for her daughters and for her loyal and unending support to George. She was truly loved by everyone who came to know her. We express our thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Riverview Health Centre, Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. with Rev. Franz Wiebe and Rev. Kathy Koop officiating. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the hospital of their choice. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE - 339-5555

As a child and teen, I had the honour of getting to know Mrs. Wall through family ski trips and stays at Lake of the Woods. I can never remember an unkind word coming out of her mouth. She was always patient, supportive and kind and she was quick to laugh. I'll never forget her smile. I am a better person for having known her. - Posted by: N. Neil McTavish (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2005
