KERRY MAXWELL PEARLMAN The family of Kerry Pearlman is deeply saddened by his sudden death on September 9, 2005. Kerry was 47 years old. Kerry will always be remembered with great love and affection by his wife Leora, daughter Madison, his mother Rita, late father Spike, brother Brent, sister Lisa and brother-in-law Lyle Goorvich. He was a caring and loving husband for 23 years. Life with Kerry was always interesting and exciting. Together, he and Leora shared many great times. They were best friends and the perfect complement to one another. Their greatest joy was the birth of their daughter Madison. Kerry loved being a father and spending time with Maddie. He was her best teacher. There was nothing he wouldn't do for her and her for him. Their time together was magical. Kerry's personality, strength, courage and love of life have created a legacy that will carry on in Maddie. Kerry graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Manitoba in 1982. He practiced as Criminal Defence Counsel from 1983 to 1998, at which time, he joined the Manitoba Department of Justice as a Senior Crown Attorney. Kerry was passionate about the practice of law. He was well-respected by all members of the legal community and a sought-after mentor for law students and young lawyers. He was known not only for his quick wit and sense of humour, but for his compassion and dedication. He represented the crown's office on a number of notable provincial and federal committees. Kerry was a lecturer at the law school and for the Bar Admission Course at the Manitoba Law Society where he was recently appointed bencher. Kerry Pearlman was a lawyer's lawyer. In the community, Kerry took a deep interest in health care advocacy. He served tirelessly as a volunteer on the board of the Canadian Diabetes Association where he was the national chair of the advocacy committee. Kerry was on the boards of the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Riverview Health Centre. He was the legal advisor to the board of directors of the Manitoba Lifesaving Society and a member of the Dean's Advisory Council at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Not one to ever turn down a request to help others, Kerry was quick to volunteer his time. He advocated for organ donation, spoke to a variety of groups in the community and in government. He supported other patients with diabetes, those undergoing dialysis, transplantation or those living with cancer. Kerry received many awards in recognition of his volunteerism. Kerry was a real mensch who touched each and everyone who ever met him. He inspired us all with the integrity and dignity that defined his life. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 12. We were privileged to have Kerry's brothers-in-law, Perry Kimelman and Lyle Goorvich; cousins, Lou Cogan, Ken Segal and Noel Solomon; and longtime friend Myles Levin as pallbearers. Dear friends, Lanny Jacob, Grisha Yakubovich and George Allen as honorary pallbearers. We are deeply appreciative and would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support that we have received during this difficult time. Should you wish to make a donation, Kerry's family has established the Kerry Pearlman Research Fund at the Canadian Diabetes Association in his memory and in his honour, 102-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.

  • I was very saddened to hear about Kerry when I got the call from Wpg. In fact, his name came up just 2 weeks before when I was back home visiting my folks with my 2 young boys. Kerry will be remembered by me as a wonderful person, funny and unselfish. My sympathies go out to the entire Pearlman family. - Posted by: Steven Bager (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2005

  • Kerry was an amazing, kind hearted man. He was the one lawyer that gave me a chance coming out of daycare to work for him and to be able to prove myself that I could learn. If it wasn't for Kerry I wouldn't be in the position I am at today. - Posted by: Sandy Kuchinski (Co-Worker) on: Sep 12, 2005
