Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICK JOSEPH ECHLIN TURNLEY Patrick Joseph Echlin Turnley passed away at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on September 16, 2005. Pat was born in Winnipeg November 29, 1925. He joined the Canadian Army Royal Canadian Service Corps in 1941 retiring in 1975. During his service to Canada he served in the Second World War in the Netherlands, England, France and Germany. When the Canadian Government asked for volunteers to test experimental gases and chemicals in Suffield Alberta Pat offered himself. Pat served the military in Alaska before going to serve in Korea in 1952. He drove ambulance to transport the wounded from the battlefield to the 38 Advance Field Dressing Hospital. He was sent to Hawaii for some R R before returning to Winnipeg. In 1953 he was posted to Churchill until being posted to Rivers in 1959 and then to Shilo in 1970 until retirement in 1975. During his Service to his Canada, Pat was awarded: the France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939 to 1945, Korea Medal, UN Service Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. Pat served the Brandon community as a transit driver for many years and was affectionately known to many disabled children as Uncle Patty . Always quick to volunteer and usually found at a charity event, Pat was recognized everywhere for his Heart of Gold . Pat gave over 100 blood donations to the Red Cross and received many citations and commendations for his volunteer work. He was also a member of the Brandon Horticultural Society, Amalgamated Transit Union, Canadian Red Cross and many charities around the communities of Brandon, Shilo and Rivers. Pat was predeceased by his wife Rose (Bugera). Pat is survived by his daughter Patty; sister Patricia (Stan) Janman; and brothers, Peter (Anne) Gillis, Charles (Ruth) Turnley and George (Gerry) Turnley and many nieces and nephews. Pat's family would like to thank all the terrific staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for all the dedication to excellence, compassion, care and consideration given in making such a wonderful home for Pat. He was very happy and thankful for your loving care. THANK YOU!!!! Service will be held at Brockie Donovan, 332 - 8th St., Brandon, Wednesday, September 21 at 1300 hours (1:00 p.m.). Following the service, interment at Brandon Cemetery followed by refreshments at Brockie Donovan. Honorary Pallbearers are Peter Gillis, Charles Turnley, George Turnley, Stan Janman, Peter Ewasik and Gord McEachean.
