Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE REITA SLEMMONS (nee MACVICAR) November 21, 1912 - September 17, 2005 It is with great sadness, we the family announce the passing of our dear mother. Mom was predeceased by her parents, David and Martha (Berkie) MacVicar; four brothers, Bert, John, Neil and Lauder; one sister Jean and her daughter-in-law Marlene Slemmons. Mom will be forever in the hearts of her family, her children, Douglas, Shirley (Jack Passey), Jean Lund, Laura (Ed Kostenko); 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Swan River, MB. In 1931 mom married Gordon Slemmons and in 1940 settled in Winnipeg. Mom worked for many years in her father's store namely MacVicars Food Market in St. James until her retirement. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Greg and Mike Kostenko, Leonard, Bob and Kevin LeClaire and Brian Sterzer. Honorary pallbearer Larry LeClaire. The family extends a very special thank you to Captain Faye Shail, Chaplain of the Salvation Army for her prayers and hymns; and to the nurses and staff for her care during her stay at Grace Hospital. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S8.
