Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR H. HOOLE C.D. On September 16, 2005 Arthur passed away. He was born in Clanwilliam, MB, May 18, 1916. He was predeceased by his dear wife Freda, just prior to their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a son of the late Arthur and May Hoole and was predeceased by brothers Rene, Will, Alb and sister Peggy. He is survived by his sons Arthur (Leslie), Donald (Elizabeth) of Peachland BC and daughter Katherine (Ian Walkty), grandsons Trent Hoole (Ottawa) and Grant Hoole (Montreal), Scott Walkty (Toronto) and Andrew Walkty (Winnipeg), and granddaughters, Heather Hoole (Clearwater BC) and Liza-Dawn Hoole (Peachland BC). He is also survived by his sister Betty Bounds of New York and daughter Elizabeth, by his brother Ken Hoole, wife Phyll and their children Linda, Ken, Jon and Bill, and in the UK by nieces Eileen (Ivor), and Christine (Dennis), Hilary Woodford (Clive) and Mary Whittingham (wife of his late nephew Peter). Arthur was very proud of his Welsh heritage and he was particularly devoted to those mentioned and to his many cousins in Canada and the UK. Arthur received his early schooling in Winnipeg. Following high school he was articled to Black, Henson Chartered Accountants but at the outbreak of the Second World War, he was called up. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in England, Sicily, Italy and France and received the Canadian Decoration. The most difficult part of his wartime service was the 5 years of separation from Freda, whom he had just married prior to going overseas. After the war he returned to studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work from the University of British Columbia. His Master of Social Work was specialized in public administration, followed by clinical training in the USA. He served as an executive director of several family and child care agencies in Calgary and Winnipeg, until his later appointment to the Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba. He was particularly proud of being associated with the faculty's Northern Educational Project. He and Freda were jointly recognized by former students through the establishment of the Arthur and Freda Hoole Award in the Faculty of Social Work, to honour their enthusiasm and support of education in Northern Manitoba. Arthur also served on many professional and community volunteer boards, both locally and nationally. He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church. Arthur possessed a wonderful sense of humour, wit, generosity of spirit and a deep compassion for others. He was a 'gentle' man; he loved and was loved dearly by his family and friends. He will always remain a beautiful memory for his children and grandchildren. Life is brief; love is forever. We would like to sincerely thank the Winnipeg fire and paramedic staff that helped our father and also the wonderful medical teams at emergency and on the 4th floor of Victoria Hospital, for their support and care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church (located at Broadway and Osborne) on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m., the Rev. J. Draper officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Arthur and Freda Hoole Award, c/o Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba or to the Women's Musical Club, Winnipeg. ‘Art’ Professor Hoole was such a blessing to me!! Kind helpful intelligent wise - he would get quiet and listen intently if I said these things. And then say something self defacing and very funny:). I have never again met a person who could listen so well and was so wise. As a young social work student away from ‘home’ for the first time in Thompson, he and Freda were God sends. I will aways be in their debt. He was by far the most influential of any teacher I ever met. The relationship continued after graduation and Freda and Art both welcomed my new wife Sharon and offered such encouragement and love. May they both Rest In Peace my good friends from so many years ago. Rev.
