Norman passed away when Garnet was six years old and the family moved a number of times before settling with his grandmother Switzer in the Sandringham District. He grew up there and in the late 30's, started farming. He met Velma who was teaching in the area and they were married in 1944. In 1956, after several bad crop years, the family moved to Dryden, ON, where he worked for the Pulp and Paper Mill for 29 years retiring in 1985. In 1987, they returned to Dauphin. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, RV-ing with the Good Sams, and trips across Canada and the United States. He took much pride in his garden of vegetables and rose bushes. He looked after Velma for several years before she moved to the Dauphin Personal Care Home in 2000. Garnet himself moved into the Personal Care home in April 2004. ln July of that year he moved to East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour where he resided until his passing at the Beausejour District Hospital. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of East Gate Personal Care Home (Rose Unit) for the loving care they gave to our Dad. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Manitoba Genealogical Society.
