Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOSCAR EPP At home on the evening of September 21, 2005, surrounded by his family, Oscar Epp, beloved husband of Helen Epp, was released from the frailness of his earthly body and carried into the presence of his Heavenly Father. Predeceased by his mother, father and sister Irmgard, he will always be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his devoted wife Helen; his son Carl (Sharon) and their daughters, Nicole and Andrea; his daughter Colleen (Gerald) Dey and their children, Lauren, Connor and Amber; his sister Erika Koop; and brothers, Ted (Luella) Epp and Fred (Irma) Epp; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Born in Rosetown, SK on February 20, 1933, Oscar, the youngest of five children, learned early how to live a joyful and worry-free life. At a young age, his family moved to Winnipeg where he spent his youth exploring North Kildonan and developing his lifelong interests in music, poetry, carpentry and the wonders of the outdoors. In 1957, Oscar married Helen Unruh and together they shared 48 years of joy and love, as they raised their two children. Dad's enthusiasm for life increased further when his five grandchildren entered the family. He felt they were truly his reward. His sense of humour and optimism made him the centre of the family, helping all of us know that life was good and we were loved. Oscar was always very aware of God's great love for him and was a member of the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, where he found many opportunities to serve his Lord and Saviour. He chose a career in education, which he pursued for 23 years, attaining his Masters degree along the way. He then moved on to a new challenge in the insurance industry, where he enjoyed many years of developing new friendships. He loved people and had a way of making everyone who crossed his path feel important and accepted. He was a very good man. Oscar had been under palliative care for the last four months and had been cared for by so many wonderful nurses, aides and home care workers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sandy, Pat and Christina for their attentive and loving care, and the nursing staff at home care and the Victoria Hospital 3S. A graveside interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27 in St. Vital Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy. The family will meet friends and relatives at a viewing from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations in Oscar's memory may be made to Eden Foundation in support of Recovery of Hope, Box 129, Winkler, MB R6W 4A4. Oscar was more than an insurance broker. I considered him my friend. When I went thru a painful divorce, Oscar was there to help with a kind heart. When I found happiness again and moved to Saskatchewan, again Oscar was there to help. After my arrival in Saskatchewan Oscar sent me a letter wishing me well in my new life. It was such a kind, caring letter. It was just such an"Oscar" thing to do. I'm sorry I didn't know he was ill again. I would have liked to have gone to visit him. He was a true gentleman. - Posted by: Joan Hood (Acquaintance) on: Jan 16, 2006
