Nell was born on the family farm at Balmoral October 19, 1913. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Misericordia Hospital in 1935. Christmas Eve, 1938 she married Stanley Drake in Toronto. They made many good friends before returning to Winnipeg in 1949 with two children and a shetland pony. Garth was born in Winnipeg soon after. The family settled in Norwood Flats. She found much pleasure with neighbours and became a hard working, loyal member of the local Anglican church, St. Philip's. Nell loved to swim, lawn bowl and play bridge and managed to find time to stay active with her nursing alumni. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Philip's Anglican Church, 240 Tache Ave. at Eugenie Street, Winnipeg. A private family interment will take place at Stonewall Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre. Their selfless work and many kind deeds are much appreciated by the entire family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Over decades, Lloyd Willis kept in contact with his Winnipeg Willis cousins. As an only child, Harry Willis, Lloyd always looked forward to the summer holidays when he could visit "The Farm". It was fun for him to be spoiled by all the "girls". We looked forward to the annual Christmas letters to learn the latest news. Nell was in Toronto during the war years whilst Lloyd worked at the Nobel Ammunition Plant. He was pleased to be able to see Nell occasionally. Yes, he was very fond of all his Manitoba relatives. I send sincere condolences, Doreen Willis and family. - Posted by: Doreen Willis (Family) on: Sep 26, 2005
