RON SCHMIDT Peacefully, on Saturday, September 24, 2005, Ron Schmidt, aged 91, passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre. Ron is survived by children, Nancy and Tom; daughter-in-law Maureen; grandchildren, Phillip, Colin and Rhea; great-grandchild Ronin; and Ron's sister Evelyn Harper. He was predeceased by his wife Eva in 2004. Ron was a devoted father and husband. He was a member of the War Time Pilots and Observers Association, an avid curler, golfer and gardener. An accomplished musician who could not read a note of music, Ron could play any song after hearing it once. Ron served as a pilot, flying Sunderland Flying Boats in the Second World War, where he was stationed in England and throughout Africa. He had a long career as an Agronomist, retiring from the Manitoba Department of Agriculture. After retirement he and Eva enjoyed travelling to many locations around the world. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
