LEO R. SCHMIDT With his family by his side, on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the St. Boniface Hospital after a post surgery struggle, Leo passed away peacefully at the age of 82. He was predeceased by his mother and father, sisters, Irene and Betty; and son, Ron. We would like to thank Mom for her numerous visits each day and her steadfast belief of hope for recovery. Leo was born and raised in Waldersee, MB. He moved to Winnipeg in 1946. Leo worked as a welder for Vulcan Ironworks and C.P. Rail. Leo will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Lorraine of 53 years, his son, Lloyd and his wife Susan, and his granddaughters, Ashley and Sarah. He is also survived by his sister Ruth, brothers-in-law, Wally and Rene and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law from the DeClercq family. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family. Sunday afternoons were devoted to watching the Vikings quest to win the Super Bowl. A highlight for Leo was having the opportunity to see the Vikings live in Minneapolis. Leo was an avid reader and follower of current events, loved to exercise on his bike and in later years walked frequently from St. Vital to downtown. The family extends a special thanks to Drs. Lee, Bell, and Ramsey and the extraordinary nursing staff at the Surgical I.C.U. at the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Leo's memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. A private interment will be held for the family.
