FREDERICK (DICK) WESTDYK Peacefully, at Grace Hospital with his family at his side, Frederick Westdyk passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2005, at the age of 89. Left to cherish his memory are his stepson George (Pearl); nephew Charles (Vlieta) with whom he lived; granddaughter Laura (Mark); great-grandsons, Julian and Zachary; sister-in-law Margaret; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Julie; brother Bill; and sister Mary. Fred was born February 4, 1916, in York Township (Toronto), ON. Named Frederick, his older siblings mispronounced it Freddy Dick and so he became known as Dick to family and early friends. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man, respected by all who knew him. Fred called Ashern, MB, his hometown and had fond memories having spent his teenage and early adult years living northeast of the town, first on his parents' farm and then on his own farm. He later moved to Winnipeg where he spent many years working for Eaton's Mail Order until his retirement. In Winnipeg, he met the love of his life, Julie. They spent many years in Winnipeg before moving to the Okanagan for a few years and then returning to Winnipeg. Fred has a great passion for photography, and many relatives and friends have enjoyed and received some of his photos. The family would like to express thanks to all the staff at the Grace Hospital for the care given to Fred. Memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 5 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He closed His arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
