HARVEY WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN It is with deep sadness but with wonderful memories we announce the passing of our husband, dad, grampa, great grampa and friend on Friday, September 30, 2005 at his home in West Hawk Lake, at the age of 73 years. Harvey will be greatly missed by his loving wife Alida (Ellie) of 49 years, four children, Barbara, Donald (Erika), Brian (Donna) and Sharon (Bruce); 12 grandchildren, Lynn (Shane), Laurie (Donald), Jackie (Jamie), Kevin, Jordan, Michael, Logan, Travis, Jenna, Adam, Alida, and Troy; four great-grandchildren, Kaden, Emily, Cole and Anna; his brother Adolf (Olive); his sisters, Helen, Eva, Dorothy (Don) and Hilda; sisters-in-law, Carol and Inga; brother-in-law Len, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law and special friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Dorthea; his brothers, Rudolph, Phillip and August; his sisters, Evelyn, Betty and Margaret and his very special dog Coco. Dad was born at the family farm in Darwin, MB on November 28, 1931. He attended school in Darwin and in 1951 Dad came to West Hawk Lake where he was employed by the Province of Manitoba in various positions until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement from the government, Dad along with Mom continued their proprietorship of the Nite Hawk Cafe that they purchased in 1970 and operated for 35 years. Dad enjoyed the outdoors from the time he was young. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and curling. Later, gardening became his passion. Dad was always further educating himself through his readings, which he encouraged his children and grandchildren to do also. Dad spent many hours tinkering and being Mr. Fix-It . He was a Jack of all Trades. Dad took great pride in his ability to reuse and recycle all kinds of materials. For the past ten years, Dad and Mom have spent their winters in Beausejour. However, Dad's heart remained in West Hawk Lake because it was home . Dad fought a courageous battle living life to the fullest, making every moment memorable. Dad was a unique and respected man that demonstrated a mind that approached tasks with detail and organization and a directness to his manner. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dad's life will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB with Rev. Karen Toole officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the United Church West Hawk Lake or to Southeast Whiteshell Fire Department, West Hawk Lake, MB. The family would like to thank the Oncology Department at Concordia Hospital, especially Dr. Harris and Carol. Also thanks to Debbie, Melanie and Sue from Selkirk Hospital for all of their care and compassion. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM, Beausejour 268-3510 or MB Toll Free 1-877-776-2220

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I spent many evenings enjoying the company of Harvey and Ellie in their home in West Hawk while I was living in Falcon Lake and working at the hotels. The hospitality and friendship showed to me in their home is still alive in me today and brings many fond memories. My prayers are with the whole family. ( you will probably not know me by this name but I am Lorne Persoages' sister.) - Posted by: Pat Steele (Friend) on: Oct 03, 2005
