EMIL WILLIAM MANCHULENKO July 24, 1931 - September 29, 2005 Peacefully and surrounded by his family at home, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Emil. His smile could light up a room, and his unique sense of humour will never fade from our hearts. His devoted and loving wife Marlene survives him. He also leaves to mourn: his children Linda, Emil Jr, Monica (Bill), Carla (Leslie); his step-children, Jo Anne, Gerry (Marnie), Richard (Kim); his brothers, Lloyd (Marcia), and Roy (Joyce); his grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Brooke, Julianne, Curtis, Mitchell and Anna; niece Sam, and nephews, Dan, Michael, Peter and A.J. He was predeceased by his parents Anna, Emanuel (Mike); his wife Nellie, and three children, Thomas, Darren, and Emily. In his Glenlawn days, he was an avid athlete, enjoyed Drama club and his singsong voice led him to singing Barber Shop. He then went on to graduate from Success Business College in 1951. He left Winnipeg in 1953 to pursue an eventful career in wresting with the National Wrestling Alliance in Windsor, Ontario from 1953-1956. His fans knew him as Tarzan of the Mat from Central America. His wresting circuit included Windsor, Detroit, Cleveland and Toledo. He was also employed at the Chrysler Plant while wresting in the National Wrestling Alliance. His workouts at the plant included lifting engine blocks (one in each hand) onto the assembly line. His passion for wresting carried into his passion for life, which allowed him to be a fighter to the end. He fought a brave fight in an admiral manner. His concern and love for his family was always in the forefront of his thoughts even in his weakest moments. After leaving the National Wrestling Alliance, he returned to Winnipeg in 1957. After many short careers, he attended Musker Engineering and graduated as an architectural draftsman, which in turn led him into his career in the roofing business. He was an extremely hard working and energetic individual and in 1984, he took a bold step and embarked on his own personal business venture; E.M. Roofing Consultants Ltd., which he and his son Darren turned into a very successful business. At the age of 60, he semi-retired and he and his wife Marlene enjoyed many years snow-birding in the southern USA. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. K. Lamba, the palliative nurses, coordinators, and volunteer Rene Toupin, as well as the home care personnel which assisted daily with Emil's care over the past eight months. You were all very special. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined, should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to: Winnipeg Foundation (Emil Manchulenko Fund) 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0X3 or The War Amps - Champs Program for Child Amputees, P.O. Box 728, Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2K3 or a charity of choice. I'M FREE Don't grieve for me, now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, or love, or work, or play. My life's been full, I have savoured much, Good friends, good times, A loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief, Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He sets me free. God has me in His keeping, You have me in your hearts. Arrangements in care of: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 4000 Portage Avenue 885-9715
