EVA JEAN NOWAK It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eva Jean Nowak, in Winnipeg, on Monday, September 26, 2005. Jean was born on January 20, 1951, the middle child of Polish immigrant parents, Stanley and Stefania Nowak. She received her elementary education at Champlain, William White and Frontenac Schools, high school education at both Windsor Park Collegiate and St. Mary's Academy and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg. Although Jean worked at a variety of jobs, she made a career of her employment at CN Rail. Beginning in 1973 as a keypunch operator, she worked her way to a variety of management positions in Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan that included Trainmaster, Crew Manager and Regional Safety Officer. Through much of her life, Jean was an active member of her community and avid supporter of the arts. She was picked Freshie Queen in High School and represented the Polish Gymnastic Association as Miss Krakow during Folklorama in both 1973 and 1980. Jean was a season ticket member of both the Symphony Orchestra and Ballet for a number of years and in recent years, volunteered her time with the Prairie Dog Central. Over her lifetime, Jean enjoyed the company of a number of good friends. Those privileged to have known her will remember her great sense of humour, her kindness, generosity and very engaging personality. They'll also remember her great cooking and baking which she took great pleasure in sharing with family and friends. Jean loved to read, write and compiled an extensive library of music from classical to country. Throughout her short life, she also created an extensive collection of Needlepoint, Petite Point and Cross Stitch pictures, which she has shared with family and friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Darcy; her brother Viktor, his wife Cathy and their children, Leah, Jenna and Mathew; her nephew Steven Navratil; numerous cousins in Canada and Poland; and her special friends, Maureen and Matt Olafson, son Sandy; and Alma and Freda Langner. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 9 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's All Beliefs and Faiths Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave. at Sharp Boulevard.
