GORDON ALFRED NICHOLAS Peacefully, on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital, Gord passed away at age 88. He leaves to mourn his five children, three sons, John Paul and wife Susan of Trenton, ON, Glen and wife Claire of Winnipeg and Jim of Winnipeg; two daughters, Nealon Smith and Ann Radons and husband Chris of Winnipeg. In addition, Gord will be missed by his grandchildren, John Paul, Cathy, Garth, Lyndsay, Martin, Laura, Beth and great-granddaughter Amara; as well as his dear friend Mary MacKinnon. Gord was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years Patricia (nee Carolan) and his second wife Mary McKay. Gord was born on June 23, 1917 the youngest child of John Samuel Nicholas and Sarah Nicholas (nee Endersby) in Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba, Engineering Faculty and was employed at Cowin Steel for over 40 years rising to the position of President. Gord was involved in the war effort of the Second World War as part of the Royal Corps of Engineers stationed in Holland and Belgium. He was active as a volunteer and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Misericordia Hospital and member of the SERRA Club. Gord enjoyed the game of golf and was a longtime member of St. Charles Country Club. The family would like to thank Dr. F.P. Ross for his compassionate care of Dad. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding.
