PETER HARVIE JOHNSON October 24, 1906 - October 2, 2005 It is with sadness and good memories the family announces the peaceful passing of Dad on Sunday, October 2, at the Charleswood Care Centre. Dad was born October 24, 1906 in Plumas, MB. Went to school at Lily Bay, west of Lundar. He lived on his grandparents farm until he went to work in Winnipeg, where he met Mum, Doris Askew. They were married in Winnipeg and went back to the farm at Lily Bay. In 1935 they moved back to Winnipeg, where Dad got a job hauling cordwood from Brokenhead, MB. In 1937, they went back to the farm north of Selkirk on a government plan (Back to the Land). From there they moved to Inwood, then north to Sandridge, this is where they sold out in 1949 and moved to 411 Ainslie St., St. James. In 1998 they sold the house and moved into Kiwanis Courts. For the past year they have lived in the Charleswood Care Centre. Dad is survived by his wife Doris; his children, Alf and Gerry, Doedy and Henry, Doreen and Jim, Ron and Joan, Carol and Gord; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. Dad loved working in his garden attending to his flowers and vegetables. He enjoyed playing his violin. In his early years, he played at many school dances and house parties. He enjoyed spending time with people, especially his grandkids. We would like to thank staff at the Charleswood Care Centre for the great care given to Dad while he was there. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage at Aubrey, Winnipeg. Rev. Bill Corkum will officiate with interment to follow at Sandridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Russ Johnson, Doug Carmichael, Tim Fairburn, Greg Crowe and Foss Garrioch. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
