ANNIE LOUISE BROWN (nee COPELAND) November 30, 1909 - September 15, 2005 Peacefully, in her 95th year, at Lion's Personal Care Centre. Predeceased by her loving husband Arthur William Brown in 1970; infant son Arthur Lorne in 1942; parents, Christopher and Helen Copeland; sister Marjorie Bryant; brothers, Jack and Hilary. Lovingly remembered by her sons, Christopher (Rachel) of Burlington, ON; Hugh (Kyra) of Winnipeg, Alan (Deby Justice) of Blue Lake, ON; grandsons David (Alicja Kryzmien), Thomas (Colleen Silver), Kevin, Scott (Michelle Barnet), Neil, Walker and Morgan; great-grandchildren, James, Kailin, Alexa and Cassie. Louise was born in Winnipeg and educated at Wolseley and Kelvin schools. When she was 19 years old her father died of meningitis and Louise, the eldest of four children, took a business course and went to work at Eatons to help support the family. Eventually she was able to follow her interest in nursing and graduated from the Children's Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. She married Art Brown in 1939 and raised their family in Winnipeg and many smaller communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Louise was often called on to provide emergency medical assistance when doctors weren't available. In Lac du Bonnet, MB Louise was an active member of St. John's Anglican Church as President of the Women's Auxiliary (ACW), Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and occasional organist. She was also involved with the Lac du Bonnet School Parent Teacher Association. In Winnipeg, she was President of the ACW at St. Saviour's Church, St. John's Cathedral and an active member of the ACW at St. Luke's Church. As a Children's Hospital Nurses Alumni, Louise volunteered for over 30 years with their highly successful Book Market to fund research in children's diseases. The family wishes to thank Louise's special friends Truus Oliver and Blanche Miller for their unfailing dedication. We acknowledge and thank Dr. Susan Hauch of the Family Medical Centre and staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Special gratitude is extended to the staff and volunteers at Lion's Manor and Lion's Personal Care Centre whose gentle care helped Louise during her last years of declining health. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Louise's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., October 12 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. A reception and interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations may be made in Louise's memory to Children's Hospital Foundation, CE 501, 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3A 1S1 or St. Luke's Memorial Trust Fund, 130 Nassau St. N., Winnipeg, R3L 2H1.
