KATHLEEN LOUISE SUMTER The life of Kathleen Louise Sumter born on February 11, 1908 in Truro, NS has peacefully come to an end, on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Misericordia Nursing Home. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Walter Lever Sumter in 1984. She will be mourned by her friends and remaining children, Adena Frietag and Walter Sumter. Her many grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Her parents were Jim Mentis and Etta Mentis (nee Paris). They were Deacon and Deaconess of the Zion Baptist Church in Truro. Their home was filled with music. Gospel groups from the United States and the young Portia White and family, rehearsed there for church socials; her sisters, Sue, who played the organ in church and at formal concerts, her sister Mable, played for gospel concerts, because she could fill in the notes , and her remarkable sister, Bess, who facilitated their efforts. Their home was a centre of rehearsal. The family wishes to thank the staff at Misericordia Place who treated our mother with kindness, and in many cases, as someone close to their hearts. Special thanks to her faithful friend, Elsie who was always there for her. A family memorial service at 12:00 noon at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillvary Blvd. on Saturday, October 15. There will be a gathering for friends and family at the Misericordia Centre at 44 Furby St., Winnipeg between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. following the service.
