Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANNA WEST May 14, 1919 - September 30, 2005 After a courageous battle with cancer, Johanna West died September 30, 2005 at the home of her daughter, Heather, of Tacoma, WA. Johanna was born on May 14, 1919 and was raised in Winnipeg, MB. She met and married her adoring husband George West in Winnipeg. Johanna worked for T. Eaton Company; George worked at the Winnipeg Free Press. During the Second World War she worked at an aircraft assembly plant in Toronto inspecting parts, Boy do I check them, she said. George was in the Royal Canadian Air Force at this time. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Johanna and George moved to Long Beach, CA, in the early 1950s, where they raised their family and met most of their lifelong friends. Joey, as she was known by her friends, worked and retired from Von's Grocery Company and George worked for the Press Telegram Newspaper. Johanna is survived by her loving family. Her spirit lives on with her husband George and daughter Heather of Tacoma and her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Debbie of Salem, OR and granddaughter Tanya, husband Keith and grandson Tad, of Tacoma. Also granddaughter Susanna of Denver, CO and granddaughter Megan of Salem, OR. Johanna, one of eight children is survived by an older sister Margaret Isfeld and family of Winnipeg Beach. She is also survived by a younger brother Robert Jones and family, of Wildiman, WA. Johanna leaves a living sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Paul Mowdy of Winnipeg and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Joe Maier and family of Brandon, MB. Johanna is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. The immediate family gathered to celebrate the many wonderful years they shared with Johanna on October 4 in Tacoma at the home of her daughter.
