Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD SOMMERFIELD Peacefully, on October 6, 2005, with his loving family by his side, Ed passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Dad was born in Gimli on February 2, 1923. He fell in love with Agnes the first time he saw her and they were married when he was just 19 and she was 20. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary and according to Agnes, We never had a fight! In 1949 he started Sommerfield Construction and along with his brother and father, he custom built homes in St. James for many years. He took great pride in his work, working long hours, seldom taking a holiday. Later, he worked for Winnipeg Regional Housing until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and his time at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. He spent countless hours tending his flowers and gardening. Ed possessed a wealth of knowledge and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Dad raised a wonderful family of seven children, who helped care for him at home in his final months of life. He leaves to mourn his passing, his adoring wife Agnes; and children, Carol (Jim Tomes), Ken (late Colleen), Roy (Cheryl), Don (Alison), Cathy (Ron Kidd), Kevin (Leslie) and Mark; as well as 16 grandchildren, Mark, Jennifer, Tiffany, Kyla, Leah, Chad, Tyler, Kelly, Carly, Chelsey, Brittany, Dustin, Tanya, Devin, Randi, Samantha; and special friends, Sheldon and Charlene Howe, as well as many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the home care staff, who lovingly cared for Ed until his final day. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
