ELLEN DOUGLAS CORDY With profound sadness we announce the passing of Ellen Cordy (nee Cunningham) on October 7, 2005. She was predeceased by her loving husband Art, her mother and father, Janet and Alexander Cunningham, brothers, Bill, Alec and sister Mae. Surviving is her only daughter Donna Lane (Jack), grandchildren, Laura and Craig (Linda) in Vancouver and her beloved great-grandchildren, Tyler and Iola. Also surviving is her sister Joyce Callow in Camp Morton, brother Ken in Ladysmith and sister-in-law Florence in Edmonton. Ellen lived in St. James most of her life where she met and married Art in 1934. They had a wonderful life together but it was cut short when he died in 1961. She returned to Eaton's, retiring from there in 1982. Always loving sports as a participant and as a spectator, after retirement she took up ten-pin bowling and golf, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also played softball with the Ramblers, helping them to win the City Championship in 1940. Ellen belonged to the St. James Legion No. 4 where she played whist and cribbage and took many trips with the over-60 group. Fondly known as Gram and Nan, she was blessed with a great sense of humour and a very loving, caring and compassionate nature. She made friends easily and spent countless hours on the phone inquiring about their health and families and doing the daily crossword puzzle with them and her daughter. But her greatest joy was spending time with her great-grandson Tyler, playing cards and games at the lake and sitting out on the deck enjoying the view. Mom said on December 4, 2001, I lived life to the fullest and everyone should do the same. We'll miss you terribly Gram. Mom, you are free now to fly with the butterflies you loved so much. We will always think of you when we see one in the garden. A cluster of beautiful memories Sprayed with a million tears, Wishing God spared you But, for a few more years. Thanks for the years you gave us And for the happy times we shared We only pray that when you left us You knew how much we cared. Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But, as God calls us one by one, Our chain will link again. A special thank you to all the friends that helped her over the last few years including the home care workers especially the shower ladies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB or a charity of your choice. Memorial service will be held at a later date, announcement to follow.
