Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH BENNETT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Irene Bennett at the Riverview Health Centre on Saturday, October 8, 2005. Elizabeth was born in Fort William, ON on January 11, 1946. She lived in Vancouver but moved to Winnipeg in the '70s where she resided most of her life. Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving parents, George and Irene; and her beloved brother George. She is lovingly remembered by her family in Thunder Bay; brother Jack (Barbara Berniece), children Darren (Cheryl), Laureen (Russell), Christine (Fred), sister-in-law Barbara Jean, nieces Allison (Jerry), Colleen (Bob) and their children; many cousins, Doreen, Eileen, Edward, Kenny, Allan, Dick, Pat, Sandra, Sheila, Gary and Jimmy and the many friends who considered her a true friend. Having obtained her B.Ed from the U.of BC in 1972 Liz later obtained her Maitrise en education from the College St. Boniface in 1995. She was great believer in bilingualism and devoted many years to learning to speak French. She spent a summer in La Rochelle, France and a year at Laval University, Quebec City in order to fulfil this dream. In Winnipeg, Elizabeth taught her entire career for the Fort Garry School Division, now Pembina Trails. From 1979 to 1981, she was in Baden, Germany teaching the children of the Canadian military personnel. Those were two years that she fondly remembered for the many friends she made, the places she visited and the great experiences. In 1987, she was appointed the first Principal of Ecole Crane, a position she held until her retirement in 2004. It is thanks to her vision and hard work that the first French Immersion pre-kindergarten program was established in her school division. She was a creative and devoted teacher and administrator who touched the lives of thousands of students and their parents as well as fellow educators and staff throughout the school system. Elizabeth was a very active person with a wide variety of interests; theatre, symphony, golfing, travelling and giving memorable dinner parties to name a few. However, her passions were golf and shopping. Elizabeth's favourite response to any proposed activity that she wanted to ponder was always, We'll play it by ear . This very special unique woman will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her - family, colleagues, friends and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a children's charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all the marvellous staff at Riverview 3 East. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomson In the Park at 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Good night! As we so oft have said beneath this roof at midnight, in the days that are no more, and shall no more return. Thou hast but taken up thy lamp and gone to bed; I stay a little longer, as one stays to cover up the embers that still burn. - Longfellow THOMSON IN THE PARK Funeral Home and Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd. - 925-1120

Mme Bennett was the first principal I can remember. Didn't realize that it was her 1st year at ecole crane . I remember her stopping me on my birthday to wish me a happy birthday, and a very exuberant "Bravo, Bravo Bravissimo" - Posted by: Ray Archer (Former student at ecole Crane) on: Oct 14, 2018

I remember Mme Bennett as always smiling and greeting anyone who stepped foot into the school. Even when I visited the school 8 years after I left, she still remembered who I was. Me and my two siblings will always remember. Thank you for everything. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. - Posted by: Lacoste Family (Acquaintance) on: Oct 20, 2005

As one of Liz's former golfing buddies from Blumberg Golf course, I want to extend my sincerest condolences to her family. We shared many laughs together as we hunted for bush balls, Liz had a swift foot for rooting them out. I was so pleased to have her come and visit me in Victoria last spring for the Curling Championships. I hope she rests well. God bless. Elizabeth Bennett was my daughter's principal at Ecole Crane. Her guidance and advice were so valuable to us during her time there. She had an incredible gift in that she knew every child and knew the parents of that child. We went to see her at Riverview and she smiled and said hello to Raylene and Alec and called them by name. We are proud to have had her influence in our daughters first three years at Ecole Crane and that it will continue in years to come. Thank-you Madame Bennett. With much fondness, the Paci Family. - Posted by: The Paci Family (Friend) on: Oct 11, 2005
