He passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at Red River Place in Selkirk at the age of 87. Dad will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Rose Donahue of Winnipeg, Vicki and Joe Hrankowski of Medicine Hat, and Bev and Doug Morrison of Estevan. He is also survived by his sister Francis Gottfried of Meleb and sister-in-law Sophie Marchak of Winnipeg. He was recently predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, and also his parents, Frank and Jessie Marchak; his siblings, Mary Warsaba and Tony Marchak and other family members. Dad was born in Meleb, MB on August 23, 1918 and grew up in that area. He married Mary Pistawka in 1940. They lived and worked on the Marchak family farm in Meleb until they moved to Gimli in 1972. In addition to working the farm, he was employed at the Gimli Air Force base in different capacities until his retirement. He and Mary moved to Red River Place in Selkirk in 2004. Dad and Mom would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 26 of this year. Dad enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends; he was very sociable and made sure no one left his home thirsty. He was a very friendly and outgoing person who loved to tell jokes and make people happy. He prided himself on his bountiful garden and his immaculate yard. He was famous for his smoked goldeye as he spent endless hours in his smoke house, sharing his culinary knowledge and recipes with family and friends. He loved to dance and even in the last year would give up his walker to kick-up his heels and polka. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Red River Place for their kindness and compassionate care. Special thanks also to Gimli Homecare. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Gimli, on Monday, October 17 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to service. Fr. Art Seaman will officiate. Internment to follow at Park Cemetery in Meleb. Pallbearers will be Egnace's grandchildren.
