Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUERINO (POP) EUSTACHIO MACARIO Sadly the family regrets to announce the passing of a man who truly knew how to celebrate life. Guerino (Pop) Eustachio Macario died peacefully after a lengthy illness, on Monday, October 10, 2005, surrounded by family. He was born to Angelica and Nicola Macario on October 23, 1916 in Scanno, Pro. L'Aquila, Italy. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Delio, Sereno and Orazio; also his in-laws, Pasquale and Maria Cristina Di Masso, sister-in-law Italia Macario and brothers-in-law Dante Di Masso and Pat Petraglia. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 64 years, Dora; daughters, Angelica (Mel) Biluk, Claudia (Mario) Di Fonzo; son Romeo (Maria) and twin sons Carlo (Bonnie) and Tony (Lori); grandchildren, Audra (Mike) Nyhuis, Janine (Grant) Gaudes, Chris and Andrea Di Fonzo, Roman, Kelly, Shawna, Vanessa, Denise, Michelle and Michael Macario; great-grandchildren, Harley, Jaden, Carter and Parker. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Iolanda Macario, Rina (Pat) Di Nello, Marie Di Masso, Maria Orazia Macario; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Italy, Pittsburgh, Vancouver and Winnipeg. He joined the Italian army in 1938, serving six years during the Second World War. During this time he married Dora (the prettiest girl in town) on October 16, 1941. Wanting a better life for his family he immigrated to Winnipeg on Christmas day 1949. He sponsored his two brothers Sereno and Orazio to Canada in 1951 and their three families joined them in 1953. Obviously family was always important to him as witnessed by his infamous Sunday lunches. Guerino's strong work ethic and high standards made him constantly sought after in his chosen field as a terrazzo machine operator. Chances are if you have walked on a terrazzo floor in Manitoba, Guerino had a hand in laying it. Hard working as he was, Guerino lived his life according to the three F's, family, friends, and fun. What set him apart from others and made him very unique was his ability to make and maintain many, many life long friends. Everyone was always welcome in his home to join him and his family for a glass of wine and a slice of prosciutto. He had many hobbies, which included gardening, feeding the birds in his back yard, making wine and sausages and creating terrazzo tables, which he distributed lovingly to all his children and grandchildren. Guerino belonged to the Roma Societa, Gruppo Alpini di Winnipeg and Saint Eustachio Group of Winnipeg where he served on various executive positions. He loved volunteering at Folklorama, club picnics, club dances and family projects always with his family at his side. The family wishes to thank those responsible for his care during his illness, most recently his home care workers, Charleswood Adult Day Club, Victoria General Hospital and the Poseidon Care Center. Thank you also to the Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Rosary Parish and to the many family and friends who visited him. Special thanks to Guerino's niece Louisa Di Nicola for her professional and personal TLC throughout his illness. Pallbearers will be members of the Gruppo Alpini di Winnipeg. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial commencing at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Entombment to follow at Eternal Memories Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. We'll miss you Pop. Watch over us. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

I found out from Facebook the death of poor Guerino. I am the daughter of Renata and Costanzo Di Masso, Guerino cousin 'cause Grandpa and Aunt Mariangelica Cesidio Di Masso were brothers and sisters. I remember when he came to Scanno in the summer and came to visit my parents and my grandparents. I am very sorry for his death, he was a gentle and kind. My brother and I Cesidio we send our most 'affectionate condogliaze and a warm hug to all of you. Ida Di Masso and Cesidio Di Masso - Posted by: Ida Di Masso () on: Nov 19, 2012
