DONALD MACEY Donald McIvor Macey. It is with sadness in our hearts that we advise of the passing of our beloved Donald on October 9, 2005, peacefully by the lake that he loved. A people lover, always ready with a smile and a joke (even if the colour was sometimes blue). Well known and well loved for many years at work at Employment Canada for his work ethic as well as his tremendous understanding of the importance of work balance. His coffee breaks were renowned, his perpetual countdown to retirement was legendary, and most profoundly his words of wisdom were literally heard around the world. But his desire to truly help people was ultimately reflected in both his choice of vocation and in the way he lived his life, day-to-day. Donald got to live out his dream, living at McConnell Lake with his best friend, soul-mate and wife, Fran. Travelling to far off places, enjoying the food, the people, the culture, and everywhere he went, capturing the true joie de vivre of life. Donald loved being a Grandpa and was infatuated with his little princess, granddaughter Inara. Making her fly and walking around the lake wearing his dressing gown, he didn't care about appearances as long as she was happy. Her smile would light up his day and she could do no wrong in his eyes. Donald's family was the single most important thing in his life. His family was ever expanding though, in direct proportion to the size of his heart. Teasing was definitely one of the most visible ways that Don uniquely showed his love and affection. After winding you up, his mischievous grin would pop up and you'd know he had you. Donald's quick wit and infectious smile put a smile on many a person especially the fairer sex, which pleased him to no end. He was an avid collector and reader of books. He had a penchant for logic that made him an amazing problem solver. He was an excellent chess player and could do well at all things analytical that he put his mind to. Donald collected tools more than clothes (much to Fran's chagrin) and was thoroughly fascinated with gadgets of all kinds. He always had a watch that even James Bond would admire. For his entire life and especially at the lake, Donald had a love for all creatures, big and small. We know he'd want to have passed on a last farewell to Bud, Budette and the Hoovers! Besides the lake, his eternal quest was to find the world's largest coffee cup, but it had to be red! Survived by his loving wife Fran; daughter Shaena (Lars); sons, Chad (Tara), Richard (Belinda); granddaughter, the princess Inara; stepmom Doris and siblings, Richard, Diane (Kirk) and Christopher (Darlene). All the in-laws, Peter and Jean, Jackie and Jenn and too many loving nieces and nephews to mention. Donald was predeceased by his mother Christine and father Clifford. He will be missed by us all but we are all better for having known him. Memorial services will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home at 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald's memory to the Humane Society. Loves Ya. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550

I respected and admired Don. In a time of need he was always there for support and sound advice. He helped me on many occasions. He truly was interested in the welfare of people and was willing to assist in any way he could. He will be a great loss to us all and his smile and sincerity will long be remembered. - Posted by: Jim Ross ((co-worker)) on: Jan 14, 2016

That mischievous grin will most certainly be missed (... I'm sure it crossed Carolyn's mind and she had hoped this was indeed another 'gotcha'.) Dear Fran - know that there are many out there thinking of you. - Posted by: Pat Allan (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2005

To Don's family.....Even though he was newly retired and really loving that life, he was often spoken about by those he touched at work. We loved getting the emails of Inara and hearing about the latest trip or project. His retirement was a hoot and we could all see the strong bond of family there. He was also incredibly hard to beat in an argument.....I kind of gave up because, you are right, he was so darn logical sometimes! He will be fondly missed by us.
