ANDREW LAWRENCE STEWART The family of Andrew Lawrence Stewart wishes to advise friends and family of his death, October 11, 2005 at St. Boniface Hospital. Lawrence suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke on September 21 and had been hospitalized since then. Lawrence is survived by his wife Girnith George Stewart; children, George (Cecilia O'Flaherty and their children, Bridget and Liam), Laura Jean (Lindsay Bueckert) and Harriet (K.C. Neal and their children, Jamie and Matthew); by his brothers, Herbert of Toronto and Dennis (Gloria) of Victoria, BC; sisters-in-law, Eileen George and Jocelyn Stewart; six nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry G. Stewart in 1976 and Elizabeth H. Stewart in 1983 and by his elder brother Henry in 1987. Born on February 18, 1927, Lawrence grew up in West Kildonan. He received his schooling at Seven Oaks Elementary, Victory School and United College. He would reminisce happily about the friends of his youth. Art, music, books and theatre interested him, but he had a special fondness for the movies. He started working as a passenger agent at TCA (Trans Canada Airlines, now Air Canada) in 1952, later moving into the position of editor with the company. It was at TCA that Lawrence and Girnith met. They married in 1956. Working part-time while going to university, Lawrence earned his B.A. from the University of Manitoba in 1968. Lawrence and Girnith built a home in the Bird's Hill area, hosting many important family gatherings, including weddings, birthdays and Christmas dinners. They moved to a condo in the city 10 years ago. Lawrence enjoyed very good health and he and Girnith were spending much of their retirement years travelling, collecting and archiving a vast collection of family genealogy and rooting for the Blue Jays. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 17 at St. Martin-in-the Field Anglican Church, 160 Smithfield Ave. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
