CAROLYN WOODROW With her family at her side, Carolyn died peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Tuesday, October 11, 2005. She is survived by daughter, Jane Gateson (Roger) and son, Robert (Barb), and grandchildren, Ian and Andrew Gateson and Stephen and Lindsey Woodrow. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, in January, 2005 and by her seven older siblings. Born in 1916 on a farm near Treherne, MB, Carolyn grew up cherished by her family and loving the prairies. She graduated from Normal School in Winnipeg and taught first in country schools and then in Winnipeg. Carolyn and Bill Woodrow married in 1944 and made their home in St. James. She was an active member of Deer Lodge United Church for many years. A special love was the cottage at Victoria Beach which she generously shared hosting many a shower, birthday, or bridge party. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she loved to plan funfilled occasions and prepare delicious meals for her loved ones. Gardening was a particular pleasure, begonias and lilies her specialty. She also enjoyed composing verse, and working in clay and ceramics. Travel to Florida in winter and several extended trips to the old country , especially Scotland brought much joy to her. Proud of her family, she made a point of keeping up connections and took a keen interest in her nieces and nephews and their families. Carolyn was a woman of great faith whose warm-hearted encouragement and prayerful concern will be missed. The family thanks the staff of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts for their compassionate care and also the staff of the Grace Hospital 3 North. A memorial service will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church 207 Thompson Dr. on Tuesday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Bill Corkum officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army. Death does not extinguish the light. Rather it puts out the lamp because the dawn has come.
