PHILIPPE (PHIL) COURTENAY HAIART
Born: Oct 24, 1987
Date of Passing: Oct 11, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHILIPPE (PHIL) COURTENAY HAIART Phil was taken from us prematurely and tragically on October 11, 2005, two weeks shy of his eighteenth birthday. Phil was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on October 24, 1987, immigrating to Canada at the age of three with his parents and eldest brother Sebastien; his two younger brothers, Alexandre and Mathieu were born in Canada. After three years in Thompson, MB, the family moved to Winnipeg. Phil's education was mainly at St John's Ravenscourt School from which he graduated in 2005. Big P excelled at rugby and wrestling, using his size to his advantage; standing at 6'3 and weighing 220 lbs., Phil was the big teddy bear the guys loved and the girls loved even more. Phil's true presence was found at the numerous SJR house parties. Things just seemed to revolve around him and his many adventures. His many friends were a testament to his outgoing, cheerful and positive personality. Phil will be sorely missed by his mum Alyson Haiart (Dominique Delisle), his dad Dominique Haiart (Luba Krywonizka); brothers, Sebastien, Alexandre and Mathieu; Phil's girlfriend Isora Van Dreser and her mom Susan Van Dreser; grandparents, Sylvia Darwent and Honour Haiart; aunt, uncles and cousins, Bev and Larry Gleeton (Chris and Kevin) and Marc Haiart. All the many family members in Europe and many, many friends grieve his passing. A huge hole has opened up in all of our lives that will be very hard to fill. Phil's funeral service will be held today, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. in the Pantages Playhouse Theatre, 180 Market Ave. East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil's memory to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada (Manitoba Chapter), 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2. I never met Phil. I was quite aware of people that knew him. I know that these people were truly devastated when they heard the news. I send my love out to the family. I'm sure you guys are doing all your best to stay strong during this tough time and I know it's hard. You'll always have your friends and families here that are willing to help you at anytime. From what I hear Phil was an amazing person. I am sure he will be greatly missed. I send my love to those who knew Phil. - Posted by: Jenna (Acquaintance) on: Oct 19, 2005

A shock or slap in the face. I called my friend today only to hear his broken hearted MOM tell me he is no longer with us. No words can come to me right now as I express my sorrow to the family. I go home and hang Phil's picture in my room, as a few weeks ago my Mom and I were going through pictures and we laughed at the one of Phil with his face painted. The funny faced friend will be on my wall forever because I am going to miss him. God bless. - Posted by: Stephen marston (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2005

I met Dr. Dominique Haiart 2 weeks ago when he performed surgery on me to remove my appendix at Seven Oaks Hospital. Dr. Haiart immediately struck me as an outgoing, funny individual with a great English accent. Shortly after I was released from the hospital I read about the tragic death of a young man in the newspaper. It broke my heart to read that it was the son of Dr. Haiart. I would like to express my condolences to the Haiart family for the loss of their son/brother. May memories of Phil comfort you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Debbie Bento Betts (Acquaintance) on: Oct 18, 2005

Even though I did not meet this young man or his family. My heart goes out to you all, I can not imagine what you all must be feeling. I am a stranger who heard of this death on the news. I just want the family know that even strangers feel the hurt that you all must be feeling and I do hope that someday the young men who are respondible for taking this young man's life will realize what they have taken away from this family. His memories will live on with you all. May god be with you - Posted by: Roberta (Acquaintance) on: Oct 15, 2005

As someone who has lost someone, I want to express to the family my deepest condolences. I was also a victim of a violent crime but managed to survive and I know how traumatic something like this can be. My prayers are with you all at this time. - Posted by: Lieutenant(N) S.R.
