Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE ELLEN SMITH (nee HILLIAM) August 23, 1911 - October 6, 2005 Ellen Smith died peacefully at the Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg. Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Martha Hilliam, her son Allan, her husband Harry, her sisters Edith, Beth and Mary, and her brother Bill. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Belsham (Bill) and Karen Iwasiuk (Greg); her sons, Jack Smith (Lyn) and Bruce Smith (Betty Jackson); her 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister Dorothy Cook; and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Winnipeg and Anola, MB. She met and married Harry Smith in 1937. Harry's career with Manitoba Power Commission required the couple to move to several small towns in Manitoba in the first 10 years of their marriage. In 1947 the couple permanently settled in Winnipeg. After her children were in school, Ellen spent several years working as a nurse's aide. After retirement she took time to travel. It seemed that her luggage was always packed, ready for the next trip. Ellen was always a kind, considerate, and loving person. Her sharp wit and sense of humour brought smiles to all who knew her. She enjoyed puzzles of all kinds and even to the end of her life found pleasure in word games. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers on CD1 at Riverview. We could not have hoped for better care than you provided to Ellen over the past seven years. Thank you. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Park United Church with Reverend Dr. Sharon Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Alzheimer Society. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
