NORMAN JOHN DANT Peacefully, with family at his side, Norman Dant passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Grace Hospital at age 79. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan, and remembered by his daughter Shanlee (Robert), sons, Robin and Chris (Karen), and grandchildren, Sharilyn and Thomas. Norm was born in Winnipeg on December 26, 1925 to parents, Jack and Lillian and grew up in the west end of Winnipeg. He entered the army in 1943, serving throughout Europe in the Second World War, and remained as a reservist after his return. Norm and Joan met while rollerskating at the Winnipeg Auditorium, an activity they enjoyed together for many years. Norm began a long career with the CBC in 1955. Dusty spent almost 30 years working as a mobile cameraman and technician, and enjoyed working major sporting events including the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. He remained active after his retirement, and served for nine years alongside his wife on the Executive of the Manitoba Antique Association. Norm loved the long summers spent at the cottage he built at Ponemah. He was a popular neighbour at the lake, and was always eager to lend a hand. The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Oakview Place and Grace Hospital for their kindness. Memorial services to take place Wednesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's and St. Bede's Anglican Church, located at 99 Turner Ave. (at Mount Royal Rd.). If so desired, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Joan and family, So sorry to read of the passing of Norm. I enjoyed working with him while in Winnipeg as well as other Network sporting events across the country. Norm could handle the driving of our moble unit like no one else. He was a true member of our "famous Winnipeg Mobile Crew" and will be missed. I always had time for Norm. Sincerely Fred D.
