RONALD VICTOR LIONEL VICKNER April 15, 1936 - October 14, 2005 Peacefully, at the Concordia Hospital, surrounded with deep love, Ron passed away at 12:45 a.m. Remaining to cherish his memory is his wife Adele; son Dale of Kingston, ON; daughter Sharon Vickner of Olds, AB; dear grandson Matthew Vickner of Winnipeg; sisters, Carol Vauclair and Sharon Zoroneck (Mel); nephews, Keith and Darryl; niece Lori and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents. Ron was the first born child of Victor and Clara Vickner. His first home being a log house at Old Pinawa, MB and later moving to Lac du Bonnet for most of his school years. During this time he delivered groceries and worked along with his dad on a trapline. He moved to Winnipeg in 1952 taking different jobs as a garage mechanic and driving ambulance. Ron then became a carpenter where again he worked along side with his dad; working on the Dewline, Jenpeg, Limestone and Ontario. He was last employed with the City of Winnipeg Waterworks as a carpenter where he spent many happy years, retiring in 1997. Ron loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and nature. He always managed to find a stray cat or dog that he would bring home; which they kept to a ripe old age. Ron found many good homes for cats and dogs. He was also very skilled at wood-working and he leaves behind many precious keepsakes. He was a very caring and giving guy with a great sense of humour and was blessed to have so many great friends and neighbours whom he cherished. Ron spent his last 38 years living in Transcona. In accordance with Ronnie's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place in Riverland, MB at a later date. Our family would like to extend a special thank you and much appreciation to the nurses and staff at I.C.U. and nurses and staff on 3-E at the Concordia Hospital for the wonderful care and kindness given to Ronnie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ronnie's memory to Oak Hammock Marsh, Box 166, Gunton, MB R0C 1H0. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I have several pictures of my dad in my home that bring me warm smiles. Childhood with my dad including spending some summer nights laying on the ground in the backyard looking up at the stars and sleeping in the large canvas Coleman tent; which is the one he took hunting. I still have and wear a couple of his plaid shirts and his blue City of Winnipeg work coveralls with his name on it. I'm so very thankful for the memories of Smilin' Ron, my dad as he taught me so many important skills and transferred several character traits onto me. Like his love for animals. In times such as these, with these draconian measures, part of me is thankful he is not here to witness the direction of society; it would break his heart to not be around people. - Posted by: Sharon Vickner (daughter) on: Feb 17, 2021

  • Whenever I go visit Winnipeg, I make a trip to LacDuBonnet. Those days spent with my dad near his homeland were some of the most important times for me. I am who I am today because of my dad. I am my dad's daughter that's for sure, I'm a country girl, hard working, tomboy that loves my family; as he did very much. The love he had for animals was amazing and the strays he brought home became part of our family sometimes. Like Sidney, the cat he found eating boiled cabbage with the chickens....He brought Sid back to Transcona and fattened him up good, and he lived to the ripe old age of 21! A day doesn't go by without me remembering something special. - Posted by: Sharon (Daughter) on: Nov 19, 2014
