PERE BENOIT PARIS, o.m.i. 1913 - 2005 Paisiblement, le Pere Benoit Paris est decede a l'hopital Saint-Boniface, le 15 octobre 2005 a l'age de 91 ans. En plus de sa famille religieuse, il laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs Marie-Alice Morin-Ricard et Soeur Eugenie Paris, s.g.m., ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nieces. L'ont precede dans la tombe ses parents Arthur et Eveline Paris (nee Hamel) son frere Robert et ses soeurs Madeleine Paris et Soeur Lucienne Paris, s.g.m. Benoit est ne a Parisville, QC le 17 decembre 1913. Il fit ses premiers voeux a Ville LaSalle, QC le 21 juillet 1935, ses voeux perpetuels le 8 septembre 1938 a Ottawa, ON et a ete ordonne pretre le 29 juin 1940 a Lebret, SK. Des sa premiere obedience, l'education fut le domaine auquel le Pere se consacra, en tant que professeur, et en tant qu'etudiant. Pendant sa quarantaine d'annees d'enseignement, il obtint son B.A. et sa Maitrise a l'Universite d'Ottawa, diplome de la Sorbonne de Paris en litterature francaise, en langue et culture francaise ainsi que dans l'enseignement des langues modernes aux Universites au Quebec et a Philadelphie. Il travailla assidument pour que les gens puissent poursuivre leur education enseignee en langue francaise. Parmi les activites qui ont plus caracterise ce Pere, il fut President national du Mouvement Catholique des Parents et Maitres du Canada; membre du Conseil d'administration de l'Association Canadienne des Educateurs de langue francaise ainsi que fondateur de l'Association en Saskatchewan; fondateur et directeur du bulletin mensuel Foyer-Ecole', et visiteur des ecoles en Saskatchewan au compte de l'ACFC. En 1985 il prit sa retraite a St-Boniface, tout en faisant un peu de ministere. L'an 2005 le vit celebrer sa 70ieme annee de vie religieuse et sa 65ieme annee de sacerdoce. Les prieres auront lieu le mercredi, 19 octobre a partir de 19h chez les Missionnaires Oblates, 601, rue Aulneau a St-Boniface. La messe de la Resurrection sera celebree le jeudi 20 octobre 2005 a 14h00 chez les Missionnaires Oblates, 601, rue Aulneau. Visionnement des 13h30. L'inhumation au cimetiere de Saint-Boniface. FATHER BENOIT PARIS, O.M.I. Peacefully, Father Benoit Paris, O.M.I. passed away at Saint-Boniface Hospital October 15, 2005 at the age of 91. Besides his religious family, he leaves to mourn his sisters, Marie-Alice Morin Ricard et Sister Eugenie Paris, SGM as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Eveline Paris (nee Hamel), brother Robert and sisters, Madeleine Paris and Sister Lucienne Paris, SGM. Benoit was born in Parisville, QC on December 17, 1913. He pronounced his first vows in Ville LaSalle, QC on July 21, 1935, and his perpetual vows on September 8, 1938 in Ottawa, ON. He was ordained priest on June 29, 1940 in Lebret, SK. From his first obedience, education was the field to which Father Paris devoted himself as professor, then student himself. During his 40 plus years as an educator, Father obtained his B.A. and Masters degrees in Ottawa, degrees in French literature and French culture and language at the Sorbonne in France, as well as a diploma in Education in modern languages in Laval and Philadelphia. So that people could receive their education in the French language, Father Paris was tireless in his efforts. Amongst the activities that characterized this priest, he was National President of the Catholic Parents and Teachers Association of Canada, Board member of the Canadian Association of Educators in the French language, also founding the Association in Saskatchewan, founder and director of the monthly newsletter Foyer-Ecole' and school visitor on behalf of the ACFC. In 1985, Father Paris retired in St-Boniface doing pastoral work part-time. This past year he celebrated his 70th anniversary of religious life and his 65th year of priesthood. A prayer vigil was held on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oblate Sisters, 601 Aulneau St., in St-Boniface. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oblate Sisters, 601 Aulneau St. in St-Boniface with viewing beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the St-Boniface cemetery.
