Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES GEORGE STALKER With great sadness, the family announces the passing of our dad, Charles George Stalker, on October 8, 2005. Born in Winnipeg, May 4, 1910, Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn; sisters, Gertrude, Marguerite and Louise; and brothers, Robert and Stewart. He is survived by daughters, Sharon Ellis (Ken) of Winnipeg, Marguerite of Virginia and Wendy Robertson (Edward A) of Surrey, BC; also five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Myrtle Wolfe, Anne Dunfield and Jean Dunfield; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Dad was a proud descendant of the Lord Selkirk Settlers and great-nephew of the first mayor of Winnipeg. He was also named an Honorary Citizen of Winnipeg. During his 40 years with the Royal Bank of Canada, he enthusiastically participated in community activities. In his early years he was actively involved in the Boy Scout Movement as well as the Air Cadets. He served in official capacities in a number of organizations including Chambers of Commerce, Business Development Boards, Rotary International and, for 39 years, Kiwanis International. One of his greatest dreams came to fruition in the formation of Lake Wahtopanah, which now includes Rivers Provincial Park. From 1941 to 1945, as a flight lieutenant in the RCAF, he was a flying instructor with the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Upon his return to the bank, he was transferred to numerous communities including Winnipeg, Pine Falls and Rivers, finally retiring from the Kenora, ON branch in 1970. He and Mom chose White Rock for their retirement and for many years have been members of St. John's Presbyterian Church. Dad had a great love of the outdoors, whether canoeing down the Winnipeg River, cross-country skiing, scuba diving with the OPP, flying for Search and Rescue, or simply tramping through the woods, along the beach or across the prairie. A true gentleman and role model, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service was held at St. John's Presbyterian Church, White Rock, on Thursday, October 13 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetic Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Interment to follow at a later date at Old Kildonan Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB.
