ELIZABETH (BETTY) JANE BOGDAN (nee YOUNG) After a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 21, 2005 with her husband Bob at her side. Betty was born February 17, 1940 in St. Boniface, the first child of Adeline and John Young. She attended Luxton School until the family was transferred to Regina. Although they left a very large extended family in Winnipeg, Betty loved her new schools, St. Patrick's and then Sacred Heart Academy, actively participating in sports and school plays. She was really blessed with exceptional teachers who instilled a love of life and learning. She was the definition of a people person . Betty began her working career at age 15 first at Eatons and later at Beaver Lumber in the budget office. After certifying as a comptometer operator, Betty worked at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. In 1959 she married Robert (Bob) Bogdan and they found themselves moving back to Winnipeg. After her children were in school, Betty worked part-time as a cashier at Safeway for many years. She retired from Safeway and found she missed the daily interaction with people, so she took on the job as greeter at Walmart. Her husband Bob, their three children, Barbara (Chris Shay), Brian and Cheryl, daughter-in-law Barbara Katherine and grandson Cody will miss her greatly. A longtime resident of Charleswood, Betty touched the lives of many. She embraced life passionately and enjoyed many activities, especially the social aspects. She and Bob enjoyed golfing and travelling with their good friends. Betty particularly enjoyed playing the piano with Heather and the choir at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. P. Harris and her team at the Grace Hospital, nurses on the 5th floor and Drs. Schroeder, West and Chowdhury at CancerCare Manitoba and Dr. M. Elkin at the Charleswood Clinic. Celebrating her life are her husband of 46 years, Bob, her children, her brothers and sisters and her many friends. Mass of the Resurrection will be on Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. with reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Betty's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Forgive me for the words unsaid. And for the times I forgot. Mom, you showed me love, you sacrificed. And I know you believed. And I know you had dreams. I'm sorry it took all this time to see. That I am where I am because of your truth And I miss you, I miss you. Mom forgive the times you cried. Forgive me for not making right. All of the storms I may have caused. And I've been wrong. Dry your eyes I know you believed in all of my dreams. And I owe it all to you, mom. - Posted by: Brian Bogdan (Family) on: Oct 21, 2007

  • Most often when I think of Mom, I think of what she’s given The softness of a loving touch, a gentle guide for living, A nightly tip toe in a room, an understanding look But sometimes when I think of Mom…… I think of what she took. She took a child and taught him how to live his life with pride. She took those kindergarten tears and kept them inside. Used her hands to push her child along the way, to thrive and grow. She took time to do some other things, like sew and clean and cook, And never thought to ask for thanks. For all the things she took. Thanks Mom - Posted by: Brian (Family) on: Oct 31, 2005
