Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGO NORMAN LANGE, M.D., SB of Order of St. John. July 12, 1929 - October 20, 2005 Peacefully, on October 20, 2005, after a lengthy illness, Dr. Lange, aged 76, passed away with family by his side, at his home in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his sister Maureen and his parents Edmund and Rosina, by brothers-in-law Herb and Eddie, and by sister-in-law Margie. Norman is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marianne, his daughters, Robyn, Dawna (Ed), and Shannon, their mother Beverlie; step-daughter Diana; brothers and sisters, William (Rita), Elizabeth, Doreen, Gerald (Betty), and Marvin (Carol), and Norm's grandchildren, twins Braden and Lauren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norm was born and raised on a farm near Whitemouth, MB. Growing up on the farm imbued Norm with a strong work ethic and a tremendous sense of responsibility. He lived these values throughout his life. By the age of 14, Norm knew he wanted to become a doctor and to devote himself to helping others. He graduated from Luther College in Regina in 1948 and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Manitoba, in 1956. Over the next 19 years, Dr. Lange established a busy practice as a family physician in Russell, MB. He also served as a Supernumerary RCMP Officer for 10 years while in Russell. In 1975, Norm moved to Winnipeg with his family where he joined CN Rail as a company doctor practicing occupational medicine. He eventually became the Regional Medical Officer for CN's Prairie Region. In 1993, while at CN, Norm was recognized for his dedication by being honoured with admission into the Order of St. John in the grade of Serving Brother for humanitarian work. After retiring from CN in 1994, he continued to practice on a part-time basis as a Civil Aviation Examiner. Throughout most of his career, Norm also served as a Medical Examiner for the Province both in Russell and Winnipeg. Norm also devoted time and energy to the Big Brothers Association, serving on the Executive as well as being a Big Brother to a young boy for a number of years. After his grandchildren Braden and Lauren were born in 1997, he made many trips to Brampton to spend time with them as they were a great pride and joy to him and he loved them dearly. Norm was active and hard-working and continued helping family and friends right up until his illness began in the fall of 2004. After retiring, Norm pursued his many interests which reflected his life growing up on the farm. He loved to work on his property and home on the river. He also loved to work in the kitchen, baking and making preserves but his favourite hobby was restoring antique John Deere tractors. Despite his education and cultural interests, he remained a farm boy at heart. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of the dialysis units at both St. Boniface and Seven Oaks Hospitals for the wonderful care they provided Norm during his illness. As well, we extend our thanks to many of the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1315 Gateway Rd. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
